Why Use Shredders?

Well as far as we are concerned every office and home should have shredder.

Identity theft is probably more of a threat than burglary and keeping your personal or company details that are sensitive, have never been more important.

You would be very surprised the lengths people will go to get the information they want to steal company secrets or personal information.

So what types of shredders are there? We’ll try to keep it simple;

a) Shredder - Cross Cut :  tears the paper into tiny particles which is more secure. This also helps with how much bulk is created by the cut paper, therefore cutting down the trips required to empty the waste bin.

                                                                                                    shredders

b) Shredder - Strip Cut : tears the paper into strips and depending on the security level required the strips can range form 3.9mm to 10.mm thick. So if someone was determined they could still piece the strips together on the larger strips.

                                                                                                    shredders
It is generally accepted that for everyday documents a strip cut shredder would suffice. However if the records were related to personal financial records you should chose the highest security level from strip cut shredder, shredding strips at 3.9mm.

Cross cut shredders should really be used for confidential documents, sensitive documents and top secret documents and their varying degrees of security.

The other difference between cross cut and strip cut shredders is price and speed. Cross cut shredders are more expensive and can take less paper to shred than its counterpart.

There are various brands available in the shredder market that includes better known brands such as Fellowes, Rexel and HSM to the lesser known and generally cheaper brands such as Q Connect and 5 Star.
